Monday - Bobbing at Bob's Beach

Blaine had the best sailing!
Blaine had the best sail of the day, bar none!  The weather was calling for easterly winds, building through noon and peaking in early afternoon.  Blaine, got to Bob's Beach early and went out on his 5.6 sail.  He had a great sail (with a few big lulls), for about 1/2 hour.  It was a long enough sail to sucker most of the rest of us into rigging.

I rigged two sails, but didn't get out.  Good practice I guess.  I also rigged up my foil to make sure that everything fits.  (I had purchased longer connecting bolts at Ace on my way out of town.)  Kent was so worried about his board (see below) that he failed to notice a 35" tall foil on my board.
Ted's new foil with his old Seatrend Formula board.
Harold went out on a 6.2, but he was too late.  The wind lightened up and he spent most of his time slogging.
Brad had the right idea!
Notice the different rigs and techniques!
Kent was ready to go foiling, but noticed what he thought was a crack in this tuttle box (where the foil attaches to the board), so he raced back to Hood River to have it checked.  (He was very happy to report later that the "crack" was just cosmetic - but he was pissed that he missed a good session).

Rene took out his new foil board, but the wind was shifty and light.  He ended up downwind doing the "walk", but with the big board and fin, he wasn't nearly as far downwind as I have been on occasion!
Harold, Handre, Gerry and Mike
Gerry had a foilboard on demo from Sailworks, so took it out.  The wind had picked up a little bit since Rene's try, so he got the foil up a couple of times.  He had to walk too, but not as far.
Gerry - going out with the Sailworks Demo Foil and Board

Gerry got up on the foil!
Alex was having a lot of fun until she realized that she had locked her keys in her van.  Rene came to the rescue with an AMA card, so a few hours later a fellow arrived and opened the door.
Alex - before she realized her keys were locked in her van.
Ross and Cam tried to go kiting.  The launch at Stevenson is tricky with tricky wind shifts.  Cam had trouble and ended up with his kite in the rocks.  He got everything back but didn't get out.  Ross got out but was under powered, so ended up downwind and came into the bay west of Bob's Beach, which provided a lot of entertainment for the crew who were all watching from the beach!
Ross - washed up in the bay...
We went to "The Crossing" for Paninis and Lemon Aid.  They were great as usual.  Rene had the Currie rice bowl and said it was very very good!

We gave up and left around 2:00.  Al, Brad, Blaine, Jim, Harold and Mike went golfing.  They had a good time.  Brad described the golfing as "lame", not sure if that is referring to the skill levels or the way they were walking, He said it was a nice change of pace. They stayed at the clubhouse for supper.  Click HERE to watch Blaine's Golfing Game (yes it was recorded in Strava and recorded in relive!).  It looks like he was all over the place, but he was the only one to get a Birdie.
The boys golfing!
Ross, Alex and Kent went for an SUP across the river to White Salmon River where they went for a swim.
Kent and Alex - heading out on the SUP's
I rode my bike down to the Event Site, had a swim.  After the swim, I sat on the grass to dry off.  A little boy (about 4 or 5) came by with his dog, a Labradoodle who was bigger than him.  I petted the dog, so the boy asked if I wanted to know the dog's name.  I said I did, and he told me it was Hank.  He then sat down right beside me and told me his name was Jack.  Very cute!  Then his mom called from the top of the hill.  I am sure she was freaking out with her son sitting beside this strange old man......
Kent, Ross and Alex - heading over to White Salmon River.
I road back to the condo - up hill most of the way and then showered before meeting the guy's (and Alex), back down the hill at Solstice for Pizza.  Excellent!

We had a few beers at Ross's Condo before heading to bed.  We were talking about the golf game when Alex asked who won.  Everyone looked at her - stunned - then explained that "winning" was not the point of the game.......
Kent

Rigs all over the beach...
Gerry - rigging his 6.2
I keep running into Jeff from Calgary.  Nice to see him!

The Fire across the river.
I can't help but feel a little guilty.  Here we are having fun while there are people being evacuated, and emergency operations happening in such close proximity.
