Saturday - Chasing the Wind

I got up early and joined Mike, Rene and Gerry at the Event Site at 8:00.  Jim from Sailworks was there and wanted to try out Rene's new Foiling Board.  The wind was a bit strong for foiling, but Kent went out with Jim and they had a great session.  After a ride on Rene's board, Jim rigged his own equipment and went out again.  I was able to get a few photos and video.  Rene was happy to hear Jim rave about how good Rene's new board is for foiling.
Kent can't wait to go foiling.
That is a big fin!

The forecast was for wind later in the day.  It was decided that the Wall would be the place to go, (although Ross warned that Doug's would be better!).  We all arrived around 1:00ish and ate lunch while we waited for the wind to straighten out.

Handre, who had driven most of the way the day before, met us there.  We are now 15.
Handre arrives!
There was probably enough wind, but it was blowing from the north, so the river wasn't very sailable.  We sat around chatting.  There wasn't any decent cell phone reception so we couldn't check on the weather at the other sites.
All our vehicles lined up at the Wall!

At about 2:30, most of us decided to head back and see if there was more wind elsewhere.

Cam, Eddy and Ross drove over to Rufus where they had a good day kiting.

Blaine, Brad, and Mike stayed put, and were able to get sailing in gusty conditions, but they say they had fun.

I don't see many whitecaps or any swell......

I made the mistake of driving past wind at Celilo and Rowena.  When I arrived at the event site, there was enough wind for me to put up my kite, but it quickly dropped.  I made the incorrect assumption that it would also drop at Doug's, so didn't head back.  Instead, I pulled out my kites to make sure the ends matched my new bar - so that everything is now set for the next time I want to use them.

Kent and Rene purposely drove past Rowena so they could get to the event site to foil. Even though the wind had lightened up, there was still lots of wind for foiling.

Jim, Harold, and Handre decided to go to Doug's.  They had a great sail in the best wind on the river.  Unfortunately, there is no photo evidence.

Brad says he looks ready for low earth orbit!
Most of us are sailing in shorties, or just board shorts, but Jim needs the full suit!

Alex spent the day at Luhr Jensen Park.  She said she had some good runs windsurfing!

Kent, Rene, Alex and I went to Mexican for Supper.  Brad, Blaine and Mike went to China Gorge, and the rest went to Double Mountain!

Another great day!
